Saline Impact wins prestigious silver
PUBLISHED: August 28, 2008
The Saline Impact, Saline Area Soccer Association's U-19 Premier Team, competed in the Michigan Challenge Cup in Lansing Aug. 16 and 17. After four strongly-played games, the Impact took second place overall.

The day began with a 1-1 tie with the hometown favorites, the TNT Dynamite. The Impact then proceeded through their next two games with ease, defeating the LCSC Meteors 2-1 in the second round and rolling over the Ajax Warriors 3-0 in the third round.
The Impact took second place overall after they fell in the championship game.
But taking second in the prestigious tournament was nothing to complain about. Despite the division they play in, the Impact are a very young team, fielding two U-14 players, five U-15 players, eight U-16 players and only three U-17 players.
Coach Bill Thiess found nothing to complain about, praising his talented athletes and their capabilities.
"Being this young and having nine new players on the team has created a huge challenge," he said. "However, they have responded quickly and are a true joy to watch."
The previous weekend, the Impact played their first games together at the Brighton Tournament, only allowing one goal in three games. They fell just short of making the championship game.
No doubt, with a little bit more practice and more time getting to know each other on the field, the Impact will be playing in a lot more championships. Who knows where their cleats may take them.
