EDWIN "BUD" GIBSON

Spring Arbor

Edwin "Bud" Gibson, 79, of Spring Arbor died July 31, 2008, and is now with the Lord. He was born Feb. 1, 1929, in Ypsilanti the son of Ida and Murry Gibson.

Mr. Gibson is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Patricia Gibson; eight children, Sheryl (Tom) Spaulding, Donna St. Clair, Vanessa (Frank) Holt, Alma (Mark) Brooks, Ron Gibson, Sharilyn Sage, Ludell (Gary) Goodman and Brenda (Harold) Tubbs; 32 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; two sisters, Nancy (Pete) Riley and Cora Marquist; two brothers, Norman and Howard Gibson; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, M. Alene Gibson; infant son, David Gibson; and his parents.

Mr. Gibson retired in 1992 from General Motors Corp. after 17 years of service. He enjoyed flying and driving race cars in his earlier days, while in latter days he preformed missionary work at Somerset Beach Campground. He was a member of Somerset Beach Free Methodist Church.

Mr. Gibson was known for his kindness, love, knowledge of the Bible and, most importantly, his love of God.

A celebration of his life was held Saturday at Somerset Beach Campground's gym. The Rev. David Luke officiated. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.

Memorial contributions may be made to Somerset Beach Campground Building Fund, P.O. Box 307, Somerset Center, MI 49282.

Visitation was Friday at the Watson Funeral Chapel in Jackson and before the service at Somerset Beach Campground.

PAUL CURTIS CHAFFEE

Williamston

Formerly of Dexter

Paul Curtis Chaffee, 86, of Williamston, formerly of Dexter, died July 31, 2008, at Riverwind Senior Assisted Living Residence in Williamston. He was born July 22, 1922, in Castorland, N.Y., the son of Harold L. and Martha A. (Zehr) Chaffee.

Mr. Chaffee worked with his wife in dairy and herd testing. He participated in the Mennonite church and attended Scio Community Church. He was the secretary and treasurer for the Michigan Holstein Association for many years. Mr. Chaffee liked to make maple syrup from his trees.

On Nov. 25, 1948, he married Alta Pauline Miller in Fairview, and she preceded him in death Jan. 10, 2005.

Other survivors include two daughters, Barbara Chaffee of Depot Bay, Ore., and Janette (Ronny) McCarter of Fowlerville; three sons, Jonathan Chaffee of Jackson, Timothy (Brenda Raham) Chaffee of Saline and Lawrence (Claudia) Chaffee of Ann Arbor; seven grandchildren, Michael, Nichole and Robyn Chaffee, Adam and Jacob Chaffee, and Kyle and Emily McCarter; and a sister-in-law, Minnie Chaffee.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Clover L. Farrance, and his brother, Lloyd. L. Chaffee.

A funeral service was held Monday at Cole Funeral Chapel in Chelsea. Burial followed at Oak Grove East Cemetery in Chelsea. The family received friends Sunday.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center.

EDNA M. ROBBINS

Saline

Edna M. Robbins, 87, of Saline died July 30, 2008, at the Saline Evangelical Home. She was born May 10, 1921, in Saline, the daughter of Christian and Emilie (Schumaier) Zick.

On Dec 27, 1940, at the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church Parsonage in Saline, she married Maurice Robbins, and he preceded her in death Jan. 23, 2006.

Mrs. Robbins had been employed by the University of Michigan in the Academic Records Department for many years until her retirement.

Survivors include one son and a daughter-in-law. No visitation or funeral services will be held.

Private graveside services will take place at Oakwood Cemetery in Saline.

Arrangements were by the Robison-Bahnmiller Funeral Home Saline.

THEODORE "TED" ALAN

HOPPER

Black River

Formerly of New Boston

Theodore "Ted" Alan Hopper, 81, of Black River, formerly of New Boston, died July 30, 2008.

Mr. Hopper served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, and worked as a stationary engineer for Detroit Edison.

He was the beloved husband of Mary Jane; loving father of Preston (Deborah) of Jackson, Mark (Vicki) of Saline, Rodney (Betty) of Flat Rock and Bruce (Lisa) of Waukesha Wis.; and devoted grandfather of 11.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Alcona Humane Society.

Cremation arrangements were handled by Gillies Funeral Home in Lincoln.

WILLIAM SVESKA

Sarasota, Fla.

William Sveska, 85, of Sarasota Fla., died June 30, 2008. He was born July 3, 1923, in Raymond, Minn. Not too long after he was born, the family moved to Milan, where "Bill," as everyone called him, grew up.

He loved all sports in school, his biggest love was golf.

After high school, Mr. Sveska went to trade school at Ford Motor Co. But before he could finish, he was called to fight for his country in World War II. He was with the Military Police in the China-Burma-India, or CBI, Theater campaign. He returned home as a sergeant in 1946 and moved to Ann Arbor, where he went back to trade school and became a toolmaker.

While in Ann Arbor, he met and married Ann Haglund. They lived in Ann Arbor from 1946 to 1989, when they retired to Sarasota, Fla. His wife died in 1998. They had three children, Craig, Patrice and David, all of whom live in Michigan, and five grandchildren.

"Dad will be returned to Michigan, so he can be put to rest next to his loving wife of 52 years," his children said.
