Already, organizers have more than 30 donated submissions to be on display soon at 7641 N. Ann Arbor-Saline Road, where the silent auction and reception will take place May 17.
Online bidding has begun and will continue until just prior to the party, where artists will mingle with generous patrons and supportive friends under a festive tent in the garden at Saline Picture Frame.
Two- and three-dimensional works of art are welcome in any medium before May 1. The only restriction is on size. Two dimensional art must be smaller that 9-by-11-inches and three dimensional pieces must fit in an imaginary box 9 inches by 9 inches by 11 inches.
It's all about "lots of little works of art to benefit a big cause," according to the event's mantra.
Artists may donate up to two pieces. Saline Picture Frame will prepare the artworks for display. The submissions also may be dropped at the sister shop, Dexter Picture Frame Co., 8063 Main St., in Dexter.
Circle of Art is a grassroots community project that began four years ago. To date, the event has raised more than $40,000 for Food Gatherers, a local organization that fights hunger in and around Washtenaw County.
Food Gatherers can turn that amount into more than 50,000 nutritious meals for hungry people. All proceeds raised during the event benefit the organization since Saline Picture Frame donates the space, staff and materials for the exhibit, and harnesses the support of local merchants and friends who supply an assortment of appetizers and refreshments at the party.
Submission forms and more information is available online at salinepictureframe.com or by calling 429-3352. Amateur and professional artists of all ages are invited to participate and the public is welcome to join the auction on May 17.
