PUBLISHED: February 10, 2005
Scouting is strong in Saline. Only 4 percent of all Boy Scouts in America earn the highest rank of Eagle, and Saline turned out nearly a dozen in 2004.

Eagle Scouts of the Great Sauk Trail Council were honored Feb. 1 at a special recognition dinner sponsored by the Breakfast Optimist Club of Ann Arbor.
Saline Scouts who earned the rank of Eagle in 2004 were Jeff Smith, Crew 400; David Hackett, Patrick Johnson and Clay Lingard, Team 400; Brian Fisher, Troop 416; Aaron Malocha, Kevin Novak and Matt Wonsavage, Troop 446; and John Gates, Ben Howard and Brian Young, Troop 457.
Each Scout attending the dinner was recognized individually. A brief biography of each youth was read, including goals, interests and a description of the community service project each one developed to earn their awards. Each Scout also received a hug from former Miss America Kaye Lani Rae Rafko-Wilson, guest speaker for the event.
Saline has numerous Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Venture Crews. For more information about Scouting or to find a unit to join, please call the Great Sauk Trail Council at (734) 971-7100.
